Hôtel Le Paddock

The restaurant really dragged down our stay. Staff there didn’t speak English, so ordering was nearly impossible, and they were slow, disorganized, and quite rude, with little effort to help or understand guests. That’s a serious problem for an international hotel, and management needs to address both the service and basic English communication. The hotel itself was fantastic: clean, comfortable rooms, a great location, and front desk staff who were very friendly and professional. I’d still recommend staying here.

The room’s fridge didn’t work, and the bed was hard as a rock. Dinner was potentially the worst I’ve ever had: I sat down at 7 pm, ordered at 8, and didn’t get food until 9. It was burnt and wasn’t what I’d ordered. The location is the one saving grace, especially if you’re racing at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours. There just isn’t nearly enough parking.

The hotel is good value, with a good breakfast. For getting to the Magny Cours track, I don’t think you’ll find anything better. Parking is a bit limited, and the WiFi isn’t great.

Update, May 2025: I first reviewed this in May 2024, and it’s a shame that nothing has changed in a year. The hotel and room are good, and fine for the price, though I wouldn’t call it four-star quality. The restaurant was the same nightmare. We arrived at 8 pm, ordered around 8:45, and got our food at 10:30. It took ages to place the order, ages to get four beers and a bottle of water, and even longer for the food. Their excuse was a staff shortage. I’d say they’re short staffed and the people there are incompetent. My advice: sleep there, don’t eat there. It’s a nice hotel because it’s about two minutes from Magny-Cours tracks, and the restaurant food is quite good. But the organization in the restaurant was a disaster when we visited. We waited a long time for someone to take our order, the food took ages and came out wrong, and some people at other tables even left after the appetizers because they’d already been there at least an hour. I’d stay to sleep and go somewhere else to eat. Four stars seems overrated when the quality isn’t there; I’d say it’s three stars.
