The owner suggested the house specialty, meat marinated for several hours, and it was superb. There was no fish on the menu, which was small and centered on regional dishes. We ate in the courtyard garden, where our table made for a lovely romantic setting. We weren't staying at the hotel, just dining there. Le Castel is one of the few restaurants still open in the area and looks quite appealing. We remember Le Castel fondly and hope it gets through the tourist slump along the Canal du Nivernais unharmed.

The place has a pleasant, slightly old-fashioned feel, with spacious rooms and common areas that are good for reading a book. The owners were friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was good.
