Aux Maisons (Relais du Silence)

The food was often not fresh, which is a shame. There’s potential here as a place to rest, but during the last Champaign weekend the pool, spa and other facilities had such limited opening hours that I couldn’t use them. The bedrooms aren’t particularly luxurious or modern, and the furniture is old. The bathrooms could definitely use a makeover, as they could look cleaner.

We love this place, and it’s a bonus that dogs are allowed. The wine selection is great, with excellent food and service. The restaurant never disappoints: the menu is small, but the food is fresh and delicious. There’s a huge cheese trolley with an amazing selection, and the service is friendly and attentive.

The catering was better than I expected, with delicious restaurant food and an excellent breakfast. Our room was clean and matched the description, though it felt a bit odd having to walk through a function room to reach it. Some staff were friendly, while others less so. The pool area is very well presented, but check your bill: we were charged for the jacuzzi even though it was advertised as included for hotel guests. The owner removed the charge without any trouble. I’d definitely recommend the hotel.

I’d recommend this for couples wanting a day to relax, but not for families with children. The spa and pool were lovely and seemed intended for relaxation rather than children’s fun. The bedroom was small but fine for one night. I didn’t like the odd shower, though the breakfast was nice.
