The park is lovely for a wander, with mature cedars, flowerbeds and a grand old tree. I also really admired the spray-can art along the back wall. Some of Paris's best artists were invited as part of a local project, and with my fine art training I could appreciate how technically strong the work was. Bravo! We chose this place for our wedding and couldn't have been happier. Charlotte was a consummate professional, helping us pick lovely food within our budget and making sure everyone always had something to drink, even the children who don't appreciate good wine yet. She also arranged a room where guests could collapse after the festivities, and offered us a complimentary wedding-night stay in the eaves of the medieval outbuildings. The restaurant sits in the chateau grounds. Its pretty terrace has flowering olive trees trimmed to cast dappled shade, while the children can run and play in the park. Food, service and location were all excellent. In the morning, those of us who stayed had breakfast on the olive petals, with the scent of flowers and the imposing chateau in front of us. Wonderful. This gem, with accommodation above the restaurant, is well worth a visit. Thank you, Charlotte and team, for making our wedding perfect. If everything goes wrong and we marry again, we'll come back for a second visit! ;)

It can be a little hard to reach, but once you're there, the stay is worth it. The staff were super friendly. When I couldn't get to the train station in time for my train, one of them even offered me a ride so I could make it. A nice hostel.

I came across a real surprise in Malves en Minervois: an ancient castle serving as both a hotel and a hostel, not far from Canal Du Midi. The buildings date from the 15th and 17th centuries, and there's a church and park as well. Together with the surrounding village, they make for a distinctive place with a sense of French culture, while still being comfortable. It's very quiet, prices are moderate, and the service is friendly and helpful with any questions. There are different kinds of rooms, plus a restaurant and bar, though they close around 10 pm. Wineries are nearby, so you may end up staying longer than planned. It's also a good starting point for bike or car excursions, or simply a place to forget about time.

Breakfast was great and the rooms had everything we needed. Line was incredibly friendly and accommodating. This was the only place that could fit our family of five, so I'd strongly recommend it.

A clean, affordable place near Carcassonne. The house is inside the Castle, and the small windows make it really hot, especially upstairs in the top-floor room with a vasistas window.
