You need to book ahead. The menu has salads, mountain dishes and burgers, and the service was quick and cheerful. The wine selection is good, though the beer choice is unfortunately small. The toilets get very busy, with everyone stuck in one queue. We had a good time and would recommend it. There’s also a beautiful cat in the restaurant who watches you :)

We always like stopping at La Vieille Ferme when we’re in La Clusaz. The food is very good and reasonably priced for the mountains. Service can drag a little when it’s busy. There’s a sunny terrace, and the restaurant is right beside the Merdassier lifts, so you can ski in.

The location on the ski pistes is the only thing this place has going for it. The service was the most arrogant I’ve encountered in France. There seemed to be at least ten employees, yet nobody knew what to do and the restaurant was in total chaos. We waited more than an hour just for someone to take our order, only to be told they weren’t in the mood to serve food on a Saturday afternoon. The tables were unclean and everything was filthy. This place clearly deserves an episode of Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.

After a sip of coffee, it’s a perfect place to set off skiing, and later you can recharge with a scrumptious fondue savoyarde. My son loved the tartiflette, which came in a huge portion. The teleski 'le grand chamois' and teleski 'merle' give access to both sides of the Merdassier pistes.
