Auberge de la Croix Blanche

Joseph made a lovely impression before I even arrived. When I called to confirm my booking and ask about dinner, he assured me the restaurant would be open, explained how to park my motorbike in the private courtyard, and wished me a safe ride. Once I got there, he showed me a covered parking spot, and his wife Burco took me to my room and pointed out the shared toilet and bathroom. The menu is small, with a good variety of choices at reasonable prices. I was pleased with how each course looked and with the care Joseph the chef had put into preparing it. At breakfast, there was muesli and cereal, fruit, toast, jam, juice, and coffee for €9. Joseph usually makes fresh croissants for guests who order them the night before, but I declined since I’m not a fan. I stayed one night and will definitely come back when I’m touring this region again.

The Inn was quaint, and Joseph made the stay memorable. I’d been traveling through Europe for 2 months, and most hotels tend to blur together for me. I hadn’t realised I’d booked a hotel/hostel, so the shared toilet was new to me, though I had a private bathroom/shower and didn’t even notice the arrangement. The restaurant wasn’t open, which was a shame since I’d read good things about it, but Joseph suggested a cozy nearby restaurant and it was very good. I’d definitely go out of my way to return.

The food was amazing, and the value was even better. We came across the place on a Sunday afternoon while passing through on the way to Sancerre, and the charming setting and atmosphere stood out. Service and choice were brilliant too. I’ll happily stumble back here in future.

The service and food are outstanding, and a great couple run this little gem in a charming little town. The rooms are a bit outdated, though they’re planning to remodel the whole place. I’d recommend it.
