Really great restaurant...

The only thing we didn't love was the chairs, which were so low and uncomfortable that it felt like our heads were in our plates. Maybe they had cushions, I'm not sure. Everything else was fantastic. There were four of us, and we all loved this little restaurant. I'd read some complaints about slow service, but we had no issues at all. The food quality was impeccable, and the service was pleasant. The €19.90 set menu included starter, main course, and dessert of the day, and the portions were very generous. My friends had eel from the à la carte menu and loved it. Prices were very reasonable, especially for summer. The place is right in the center, with two terraces and a lovely dining room. It was spotless inside, including the restrooms, apart from a toilet flush button that needs replacing. There's free parking about 300 meters away outside the citadel, plus free street parking. Highly recommended, and the best part of our stay in the Charente region. 🤗

The set menu is great value, with starter, main, and dessert for under €20. I recommend the Charentais grillon and pork cheeks, both excellent local dishes. The food is good and made with quality ingredients.

I spotted the mussel choices and reasonable prices on the menu outside and went right in, even though it was before noon and service hadn't usually started. The chef made an exception for me. I had mussels in cream sauce, which were very good. There may have been a little too much white wine for my taste since I don't like wine, but otherwise they were perfect. It's easy to find on the main street in the center, near the church and Tourist Office. Just stop in!
