Hôtel Le Mareuillais

We had a wonderful three-course lunch at this countryside restaurant for 18 euros. You can't beat that.

The room didn't feel worth the price: hot water took 15 minutes to come through, cleanliness was questionable, it smelled musty, the floorboards were warped, and we could feel the springs in the old-fashioned mattress. We had booked an emergency room on our way back from vacation after our car broke down and was stuck at the garage for a day. My partner, our two children, aged 6 and 2, and I arrived by taxi after spending a good three hours wandering around the garage looking for our car. The receptionist was incredibly unfriendly, barely polite. We asked whether we could check out in the afternoon instead of at the scheduled 11:00 AM for an extra charge, since we were supposedly picking up the car late that afternoon. They said no, we had to book the room for the whole night. At over €100, that wasn't an option for us. So at 11 am this morning, we left with our children and all our things, including a large Isofix car seat for our two-year-old to use in the taxi, a suitcase, and backpacks, to find somewhere to wait out the day. Where has mutual support and solidarity gone for people in distress in exceptional situations? Despite its promising first appearance, I don't recommend this hotel.

The cook uses fresh, authentic ingredients, and the herbs from her garden are a lovely touch. The room and meals were both fantastic, and the owner was always attentive and making sure everything was perfect. We first discovered this little corner of paradise two years ago and came back this week. Well done, and see you soon!

The welcome and breakfast service were adequate, but the room left me very disappointed. It was far too hot on the first floor, even though the temperature outside was normal.
