Crowne Plaza Marseille Le Dome by IHG

I booked it with my husband because we were looking for a relatively new hotel in Marseille. The first room looked roomy and pleasant, but when we came back later, we found the shower pressure was extremely strong. We asked early the next morning to change rooms and were able to move. The pressure was definitely better in the new room, though the furniture was quite damaged, and the lights kept switching off unexpectedly several times. It’s a real mystery why they don’t replace this showerhead. The hotel isn’t far from the subway, and there’s a grocery market within a three-minute walk, which we only noticed on the day we left. When we went out, though, a man who seemed homeless would follow us. The area didn’t feel safe, so I’d hesitate to recommend it for a woman traveling alone.

Sonja was so kind with our son, offering him apple juice and coloring activities. The hotel was spotless, modern, and really comfortable, with great beds and pillows. The staff were friendly and professional throughout. We had an excellent stay.

The room was a generous size, with a nice modern bathroom, and the hotel was clean and well decorated. It felt safe, including for women. Staff were very nice and spoke English well, and were patient with our limited French. A few things were frustrating. Several room lights didn’t work, and the Chromecast and TV QR code both failed. We asked the front desk four times during our stay, but nothing was fixed. There was no water, tea, or toilet paper refill when the room was cleaned, so we kept having to ask at the desk. Room service was expensive and the food was average. My salad came in a badly chipped, broken bowl, and they had no fries for the burger even though they were on the menu. The service was supposed to be available 24 hours, but it absolutely wasn’t.

I had both the red light on and a do not disturb sign up, but someone still came into the room while I was there. Electronics were stolen, and I have video confirmation. There are serious security issues.
