Villa M Marseille

The staff were lovely, and aside from a few hassles I'd happily stay again. During our visit, an event closed the restaurant for dinner one night and lunch on two days. Nobody mentioned it at check-in, though we later spotted a sign by the lift. There was also a party that carried on past 1 a.m. and made sleeping difficult. Their rule that guests can't use the facilities after checkout is frankly bizarre.

I enjoyed walking around the nearby Parc Borély, although the Hotel Villa Massalia is a long way from the Vieux Port. The room was clean, comfortable, and had the basics I needed, even if the decor felt dated. The air conditioning wasn't working well, but the windows opened wide. Wi-Fi in the room was patchy. Breakfast was adequate but offered little variety, and the fitness facilities were basic and under renovation during my stay. The breakfast area also serves dinner and has a small bar. The food selection isn't large, but what I tried was good. It's a simple Marseille option if you'd rather be near Parc Borély and the quieter local beaches than the famous Vieux Port. My stay was so-so, but pleasant.

We had a great stay and enjoyed the pool, sauna, and bar, along with the good customer service. The location worked well, about a 10-minute walk from a few beaches. Breakfast didn't have much choice, so I wouldn't get it every day. We found a few other good options nearby.

Our room was dirty. When water got on the floor, it turned brown, though I'm not sure whether that was dust, dirt, or both. The TV didn't work, and the bathroom door wouldn't close all the way.
