ibis budget Marseille Est Porte d'Aubagne

The room itself was great, though the hotel is far from the city. Alain went out of his way to get us what we needed, including extra pillows and towels. His warm welcome and kind manners meant a lot after a long day of travel. He's a gem, and I hope he's treated well. Wishing him the very best.

The rooms are spacious for such a reasonable price, but very basic, so keep your expectations low. There's no hair dryer in the room, though you can ask reception for one, and the desk isn't staffed around the clock. We arrived at 8 p.m. and reception was already closed, which made check-in complicated. The self-service kiosk also gave us a lot of trouble. For a smooth budget stay, I'd try to check in and look over the room before reception closes, especially in case something goes wrong.

I wouldn't recommend this place. The rooms are old and dirty, and cleaning only happens once a week. After that, the pillow smelled disgusting, so I had to use a towel because of the smell. There's a newer BnB across the street for just €5 more. Breakfast costs €6 but there was barely anything to eat. The only thing I could manage was a croissant, and it seemed to be from the day before. No toaster, the coffee machine was dirty, and the coffee tasted bad.

The automated service was quick and easy to use. The room smelled really bad, the shower gel bottle was empty, and the TV remote didn't work. Housekeeping woke us at 9 a.m. We told her we were checking out that day, but she came back at 9:30 thinking we'd already left.
