Ibis Marseille Centre Préfecture

A pleasant, affordable hotel in a very central spot. The room was small, but the beds were comfortable. There’s a nice car park, though it’s only suitable for small or medium cars because getting in requires a tight car lift. The staff were nice, but came across as a little inexperienced.

The bed was superb and the location great. Like many hotels in France, it’s basic, but it does the job. Breakfast costs €13 for as much continental food as you can eat. Eating outside is a little cheaper if you’d rather avoid going back for more. Recommended.

The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable, with a very comfortable bed and a lovely shower. The friendly, helpful staff can hold your suitcases if you need to leave them before heading off. Breakfast isn’t cheap, but there’s a good selection and everything was fresh. You’re within walking distance of many of Marsaille's main attractions, and the area is nice for wandering around and exploring the city. You get what you pay for, and I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel.

I left after the second night because the room made me really uncomfortable. It was dirty and trashy, with barely any real sunlight, and everything smelled damp. The hotel has serious problems to sort out. I moved to another three-star hotel, which was clean and fresh.
