The location is excellent, but I’d have been better off sleeping in the street. Although booked through Booking.com, this was poor AirBnB type accommodation, and the photos were wildly deceptive. There was exposed hazardous electrical wiring and a large hole in the floor leading down into darkness, which must surely violate safety regulations. Plaster crumbled from the ceiling onto the hotplate. The bedding was poor quality, there was no towel or bedding exchange, and there was no decent-sized mirror. An electrical appliance in the corner was torn. There wasn’t enough toilet paper for a holiday "emergency", and we had just 4 coffee pods for 2 people over 5 days, with no replenishment. The outdoor area was dirty and had plastic furniture. I know it’s an old building, but the floor dirt and crumbling plaster were visible on the mats, which were entirely grey on one side. There was no service or attendance for the building, and the only contact was an email address that seemed fake, leaving no way to seek recourse. I didn’t see any cockroaches, but I slept with the lights on and wore an eyemask.

The WiFi was too slow for downloading Netflix or Prime, and streaming wasn’t possible. With better WiFi, this would have earned five stars. Still, it’s an attractive apartment in a vibrant, central part of Marseilles. Self check-in worked very well. It has a boho retro chic meets ikea look, fantastic air conditioning, a great shower, and a kitchen with a pod coffee machine, with 4 pods provided. The bed was excellent and we slept really well.

We’d definitely stay again in Le Panier Enchanté - Suites & Loft, Emerald Suite 2nd floor. It’s a super big room on the second floor, with lots of steps that were very manageable with our luggage. Instructions for getting into the suite were easy to understand. The Old Port location is great, with restaurants, bars, and supermarkets within walk-in distance, and the port of marseille and Cathedral de la Major are easy to reach on foot. There’s a large courtyard with seating, too. Inside, the room has a large bed that fit my husband, who is 6’4, and AC/Heater that worked great. The kitchenette had everything you’d need: coffee machine, kettle, dishes, plates, pot/pans, hot plate, microwave, dish soap, sponge, salt, and oil. The bathroom is spacious, with great hot water pressure, soap, and shower gel. Wi-Fi worked perfectly.

Right in the center of Le Panier, we stayed in a lovely apartment that had everything we needed. The decor was beautiful, and the stay was very pleasant.

At €100 a night, this was shameful. The garden-view “suite” is underground and has an unpleasant damp, musty smell. The place is run-down and very unhygienic. The photos are completely misleading and bear no resemblance to what you actually get. I’ll say it again: don’t book this property.
