The Opera is right by the Vieux-Port in a lively central area, so it’s an easy cultural stop while exploring Marseille. The company puts on opera, ballet, chamber music, and other live events, with high-quality productions. Inside, the horseshoe-shaped auditorium has several tiers of boxes and is richly finished with both Art Deco and classical details. Its history goes back to the original Grand-Théâtre in 1787. After a fire in 1919, the current building was built in 1924.
