Un Mas en Ville

There’s a lot of heart in the way this little place is run. The staff are lovely, and breakfast was really nice. It’s in a great area, with lots of creativity and lovely people around. We’d stay again if we return to Marseille.

I especially loved cooling off in the courtyard pool after a hot day sightseeing in Marseilles. We had a wonderful couple of days at this gorgeous B&B. The old style decor and original features have been done with real taste and authenticity. It’s very central and convenient for everything. The surrounding area felt a little run down, which didn’t bother us, though it might bother someone else.

The courtyard and fresh pool make a lovely, calm little oasis, and the atmosphere feels private and relaxed. Even though it’s right in the heart of Marseille, the soundproof windows kept things incredibly peaceful. The shower pressure was excellent too. The location is perfect, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended for a quiet, comfortable stay close to everything.

The balcony was the nicest part of the place, cozy and pleasant. Beyond towels and soap, though, don’t expect room amenities. The room itself was average, the curtains let in the sunrise, and the bed was too small for two people who are 172 cm and 185 cm tall. We barely fit. There’s no room cleaning either. Service was missing from the start. The owner said he’d contacted me beforehand, but I received nothing, apart from an email in French that my boyfriend luckily understood. If you know you have foreign guests, you should speak English. We arrived from far away with two large suitcases and rang the bell, but nobody answered until my boyfriend called. No one welcomed us, and we had to carry 60 kilos of luggage up to the third floor ourselves. The entrance door is so heavy that I couldn’t open it on my own. We reserved the jacuzzi on the chalkboard for 8 pm, arrived at 8:05, and found another man using it. Nobody monitors the booking. The pool was too cold to use, and there’s no sun on the terrace. Breakfast costs extra, and we didn’t try it. There’s no luggage storage either. On checkout day, my boyfriend called to ask if anyone could help with our bags, and the guy said no. Nobody asked how the stay had been or even said goodbye. I travel a lot, and it’s rare for me to experience this little hospitality, service, or interest in tourists. It felt like they just took the money and sent us off. I’d never stay here again. For this price, I’d choose one of the hotels and get proper service, without carrying 60 kilos myself and hurting my back.
