Vertigo Hostel Saint Charles

The staff were friendly and attentive, and despite the very central setting, the room was surprisingly quiet at night. It’s right across the road from St Charles railway station. The rooms are small but clean and quite adequate for what you need on a short Marseille stay. I had a positive experience and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

A comfy bed, free wifi, and a friendly reception team who spoke enough English for a conversation. The hotel is right across from the railway station, and it’s a good budget option if you just need somewhere to sleep for the night. You get what you pay for, and there are reasons it’s a 3 star hotel.

The room smelled awful, like smoke, body odor, and feet, so I had to spray febreez everywhere. The shower was completely broken, with no door and water spraying out of the hose, and the lights were broken too. The bedding was thin and sagging. I’ve never stayed in a worse hotel. At least it’s across from the train station, but it was noisy and the rooms weren’t well insulated.

Being able to see the place from the train station made getting there easy, and I didn't need a taxi or time spent searching for it. I slept comfortably, and the room was clean with everything working. It was quiet despite being right on the main street. Restaurants, bistros, and breakfast spots were all nearby. Good value for the location, and I'd recommend it.
