Maison Elizondoa

A great B&B and restaurant, with really friendly staff.

Maison Elizondoa also makes a comfortable base for a few days of holiday, with places to explore nearby, including the Museum of Pastoralism, the Chocolate Museum, and one of the most beautiful villages in France. You won’t regret staying. In Masparraute, just 10 minutes north of Saint Palais on the D11, there’s a lovely spot for lunch or dinner too. The staff greet you with smiles and take great care of you. Dishes are generous, beautifully presented, and full of captivating flavors. A wonderful culinary experience, and the hotel rooms live up to the name.

The dining room is huge and beautifully decorated, with a fireplace, a pool table, and other amenities. It’s very quiet during the week, so you can enjoy your meal in peace. In this tiny Basque Country village, we found a restaurant with a carefully made, very original menu, from classic Basque food like duck breast with orange sauce to more traditional dishes such as zucchini tarte tatin and apple savarin. The owner welcomed us very pleasantly. We couldn’t believe our discovery. Bed and breakfast is available if you want to explore the region, though we didn’t try it. Definitely a restaurant worth discovering.

The dishes were superb, especially the duck breast with orange sauce, cooked and prepared just right. The dessert, a rum baba with a delightful twist, was divine, and service was impeccable. We had a perfect lunch in this guesthouse restaurant, where the atmosphere is so calm and the welcome warm. We loved visiting this charming, peaceful little village. Thank you.
