Le Lion d'Or

We'd booked well in advance, then drove for five hours in two cars with my wife, in-laws, kids, and dogs. We arrived tired at night, expecting a peaceful stay. Instead, the man who greeted us was extremely disrespectful. I asked for the manager and he said he was the manager. He shouted aggressively at my wife and sister-in-law and made my wife cry. I've never experienced behaviour like this in all my years of travelling. He blamed us for all sorts of things and effectively chased us out, despite our booking. My whole family was shocked. In desperation I called the police, but unfortunately I couldn't speak French. We had to find somewhere else for ten people and only reached our new place at 2am. The property may be beautiful, but people should know about the owner's behaviour. We're ordinary, hard-working tourists, and being treated this way was shocking. I hope no one else has to go through it.

After a day exploring the Perigord's food, it's lovely to come back to this quiet spot, relax by the pool, and enjoy the gardens and privacy. Sarlat isn't too far away, though its Saturday summer market can get overwhelming with crowds. The rooms are spacious, well equipped, and true to the regional style, and the hosts' gracious hospitality make the visit memorable. We found this charming home while driving along a country road.

The owners are gracious and go out of their way to make a stay feel special. Every detail has been carefully attended to, from the exquisite furnishings in each "bungalow" to the sumptuous, high thread count cotton sheets. It's a beautiful Dordogne property, and we had a memorable holiday. We'll be back again and again.

After a five-hour drive with my whole family, ten of us, we were thrown out. The man at the hotel was unfriendly and rude from the moment he saw us, yelling loudly and becoming violent. There was also a technical problem that wasn't our fault.
