Grand Hôtel du Soleil D'or

We could walk everywhere in Megeve from this perfectly located hotel, and the complimentary transfers made it easy to go farther. The room was stunning, authentic in design, luxurious yet cozy, and spotless. Everything was very well maintained. The team helped with everything and more, always smiling and attentive to the details. The spa was excellent, and the masseuses were truly 10/10. We loved the high-quality breakfast, the chocolaterie, and the rooftop bar for evening cocktails. A special stay. We'll return without hesitation.

The noise from the market downstairs kept us awake at night. Our windows faced it directly, and there was loud activity, including vehicles and equipment, even around 2 a.m. If events like this are planned, guests should be warned in advance or offered earplugs. It seriously affected our rest. We also wanted tea after dinner at the rooftop, where tea wasn't available. We were told we couldn't sit in the restaurant and were sent to the chocolatier area instead. It was empty, the fireplace was off, and there was no atmosphere. As hotel guests, being refused a place in the restaurant just to have tea felt unreasonable, especially with no other comfortable space available. On arrival, a receptionist kindly offered to show us to our room, but when the elevator opened, two housekeeping staff were inside with buckets, brushes, cleaning equipment, and a strong chemical smell. We were invited to get in with them. That felt uncomfortable and surprising in a five-star hotel. The staff should have taken the next elevator, or we should have waited for another one. Together, these experiences left us disappointed. They aren't small details, but basic comfort and service issues that took away from the stay we had hoped to enjoy. We hope this feedback is taken seriously and that the hotel improves these things for future guests. We believe it has great potential.

The rooftop bar became our favorite stop for a drink before dinner each day. The hotel is lovely, festive, and full of character, with friendly and helpful staff. We all had a wonderful stay and couldn't fault anything. It's a charming boutique hotel in a perfect spot in megeve. We're already planning another visit.

The hot chocolate experience took longer than expected for four drinks. With so many customers in the seating area, that part would've been fine, but they forgot the whipped cream and then said there were no spoons, even though I could see them behind the station. For a hotel with this many stars, that wasn't good enough. There were four people behind the station, and adding someone to handle serving and preparation might have helped the one person clearly juggling several jobs. Given the price and the hotel's rating, the whole experience felt below par and overpriced.
