Lodge Park

After ten years of coming here often, this is definitely my last stay. I’ve never seen a worse five-star hotel. The team is really lovely, but their kindness can’t fix all the problems in a hotel that isn’t ready to be five-star. The spa treatments also weren’t as good as they seem to think. Avoid this hotel in Megeve. They’ve renovated the whole hotel, but there are still many things that don’t work. The fireplace in our first room was out of order for two days, so we were eventually moved to another room. On the morning we left, the fire alarm went off through the whole hotel at 7 am because they lit the lobby fireplace without proper precautions or airing it out. The hotel filled with smoke. What a wonderful way to start the day.

Please be aware, my watch was stolen at the hotel. The rooms are cramped, and the lighting is so inadequate that I had to use my torch to find things in the evening. The spa is lovely, but the lift and rooms are dated, and it’s overpriced for what it is.

We paid a very high price for three nights, and we won’t be returning. The service was mostly attentive and friendly, and breakfast was good, but we expected much more from Lodge Park. On arrival, we were told the pool was closed for renovation. They insisted we’d been told by email when we booked, which wasn’t true. The only mention we could find was in small print on the website’s pool page. The rooms were below standard and needed a complete renovation. The ski room was small, cramped and smelled of sewage.

The hotel is in a good spot, very close to the center of Megeve. The lobby bar is nice for early or late evenings, with a decent crowd that doesn’t get overwhelming. Staff are friendly and will try to help in the moment, though they don’t seem able to resolve actual problems. I’ve stayed here a few times and used to make it my default for over 10 years, but it’s gone downhill. This review is also a reminder to myself not to stay again. I’ll pick one of the growing number of non-Sibuet hotels next time. Maybe not the Four Seasons, which feels too corporate and bland, but there are plenty of good options. There were a few ongoing issues during my six-night stay. My room, 104, was at the far end of the hotel from the lobby, where the Wi-Fi worked nicely and quickly. In the room it was awful, difficult to connect to, erratic and slow. I complained three separate times. Staff nodded and said they’d tell the person responsible, but nothing was done the whole time I was there. It’s nice to get a card from Frédéric Pouydebat (the hotel GM) on arrival and departure, but that doesn’t mean much without real attention to detail. The rooms are also very dark, making it hard to find things and organize luggage. The gym is small, with two treadmills, a bike, a rower and only minimal weights, with dumbbells up to 10kg. It only works for the most cramped basic workouts. I skied every day but one, so it wasn’t a huge issue, though it would have been useful for the times I used it. And for an expensive hotel like this, those annoying anti-theft wardrobe hangers are a nuisance. If you want to hang one in the bathroom to steam a shirt, there’s no easy way to do it.
