Hotel de Belgique

Bed bugs! My husband and I stayed four nights. After the second night, I noticed a few itchy bumps on one hand. After the third, I had more bites on both hands. The fourth and final night was the worst: I woke at 3 am itching like crazy, with fresh bites mostly on my hands and legs. I’d never dealt with bed bugs before, so it took me a while to work out what was happening. I didn’t want to put a damper on the trip, so I took pictures and decided to deal with it after vacation. My husband slept in the same room in a separate bed and was bitten only once. The following week, I wrote to the company to explain what had happened. They said there was no way I’d been bitten at the hotel because guests stayed in the same room before and after me without complaining. They suggested I’d probably been bitten on public transport, but I didn’t use any while in Menton. I also saw another review here mentioning bed bugs, so maybe the issue is in its early stages. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel, both because of the bed bugs and because their response to my concern was less than average.

The rooms are small but comfortable, and the hotel is clean and close to everything. That also means the train is nearby, so you can hear it from very early in the morning, though I’d still call it quite quiet. Breakfast could be better quality. I wouldn’t stay more than one night.

Shirley was so welcoming and went out of her way to find a room for my mum. The room was spotlessly clean, breakfast was good, and the hotel is very conveniently located by the train station and bus depot. We look forward to coming back. Many thanks to Shirley!

The rooms are small but have everything you need, and the staff are friendly. The hotel is clean and fully renovated, right in the center and close to the train station. Excellent choice!
