We were left without a place to stay on the day we arrived, in peak season in July 2018. The man who answered the phone cancelled our reservation about 30 minutes before check-in. He didn’t speak English and cursed at us in French; the only thing I understood was “Go to hell.” We’d booked through Booking, which found us somewhere else, but we only managed to check in around 23:00. After that, there was no time for a shower or dinner, and Hôtel du Musée spoiled our stay in what was otherwise a nice village. The place was old and dirty, and the smell was nasty. The reviews also mentioned bedbugs and mould. The staff were the worst I could imagine dealing with in a hotel. Never book here. You’d be better off sleeping on the beach or in your car.

Atrocious. I felt like I’d be cleaner sleeping in the street. After just a few minutes there, I contracted AIDS and several other diseases. When I arrived, the big, rude black woman seemed like she was going to eat me. This was the dirtiest, worst hotel ever. I wish I could give it less than one star. Do not stay here.

We told them we weren’t happy and didn’t want to stay, then negotiated a price. The woman said she’d pay because God was always watching her, but six months later we still hadn’t received the money. I wonder if she’s okay. The place was rank and they were liars. Walking in felt like I was heading for an exorcism. Shocking “hotel.” Read the reviews and avoid it at all costs.

The owners were friendly and helpful, and the location is right in the center. For those reasons, I’d give it three stars, and it could work for a short stay. The hotel is dated, though. Rooms are clean, but the hallways aren’t as well kept: the carpet is stained, even though the floors are tiled. Rooms are very basic, and unless you ask for a sea view, you may end up looking at the neighboring building’s wall.

A must-see on the French Riviera, and surely belongs on the list of historic monuments and endangered masterpieces. The most horrible hotel in Menton, if not the whole Riviera.
