Htel du Centre Metz

We loved how this hotel feels like part of the city, with its quaint, charming atmosphere, instead of a sterile chain. The hosts were superb: friendly, kind, and helpful. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with the usual cramped European shower. The hotel is in the middle of everything, with good restaurants, a covered market, a shopping center, and the cathedral all a short walk away. The train station is about a flat 10-minute walk, too. We enjoyed exploring on foot, especially tracking down excellent croissants, baguettes, and locally made cheeses. We stayed four nights in August. There’s no air conditioning or mini bar, but the fan was enough for us, though we’re used to a hot climate. There’s no lift, so stairs could be a problem, and street noise might bother light sleepers. The TV and Wi-Fi both worked well. The hotel also arranged nearby covered bicycle parking for a small fee. We really hope to come back next year.

The room was clean and very good, and the gentleman at reception was especially friendly. There’s no elevator, so pack light. A wine bar and an Alsacian restaurant are right next door, with plenty of other shops and restaurants nearby. The location felt safe, and the train station is 20-30 minutes away.

The room was more than adequate, and the staff were welcoming, helpful, and friendly. The street was very quiet at night. It’s a very central hotel at a good price, and I’d gladly return.

We ended up here by chance after we couldn't find one of our usual four- or five-star places on the way from apdh to Amsterdam. It turned out to be a lovely coincidence. The hotel had that old French atmosphere that reminded us of when we first started exploring France as young people many years ago. Breakfast was more than sophisticated (as in F.). The lady was lovely and very helpful. If you want a real France experience, with joy and smiles, you should stay for a night or two :)
