La Suite Cathédrale

After a long flight and jet lag, I really enjoyed the peace here. My room had plenty of hot water, a very comfortable bed, large airy windows, and helpful, friendly staff. I love the old-fashioned paperweight keys, with no electronic cards. The breakfast looked quite nice, though I went to the boulangerie 50 metres to the left for pastries. I suspect the rooms at the front get some traffic noise, while the back is completely quiet. The location is hard to beat, directly opposite the cathedral and surrounded by excellent places to eat and drink. It’s a charming little hotel in the traditional French style, with all the oddities of a centuries-old building: creaky floorboards, high ceilings, a winding staircase, and bells you’re bound to hear. I can’t understand people complaining about the bells. The cathedral is right there, after all.

A charming, convenient hotel and a great base for exploring beautiful Metz. If you’re coming by car, you can park in the garage beside the cathedral for €9 a day.

The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the parking deal saved us six euros. We also enjoyed a breakfast buffet with lots of options. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the price was reasonable for a nice hotel right beside the cathedral.

For a three-star hotel, this place is really charming and better than most of that category. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom had been newly renovated, and there was a kettle with tea and coffee in the room. We also had a fantastic view of the cathedral, double-glazed windows to keep out noise, and high ceilings. There’s no elevator in the old part, but the view was worth walking up one flight of stairs. The staff were helpful. Well done.
