Mercure Grand Hotel Metz Centre Cathédrale

We were in Metz for the Christmas markets in December and stayed two nights. The Privilege room was roomy, clean and comfortable, and felt like very good value. It faced the street. Reception was warm and welcoming, and there’s plenty to see, do and eat within an easy walk. The hotel is in the pedestrian area and easy to find. Place de la République de Metz has plenty of parking about a five-minute walk away. The lift is small, two people with luggage filled it. I’d happily come back if I’m in the area.

The staff were fantastic, and the hotel itself is comfortable and in a handy location. Breakfast was the awkward part: the bar area is right by the entrance, so each time customers came or went, the cold air made it chilly to sit there.

We were visiting from the US for a family reunion, and I’m so glad we chose this hotel. With my two kids, I booked a superior room. My daughter shared the comfortable king bed with me, and my son slept well on the pullout couch. The shower had good, warm pressure. Breakfast was a treat, with quiche, cheeses, croissants, bread and an espresso machine. The staff were really friendly, too. The hotel has a charming boutique feel and its own character. It’s right in the walkable downtown area, close to shops and sights. If you want a bland American-style corporate hotel, this isn’t that. I’d definitely stay again.

For the price, the rooms are fine, and the hotel is in a great spot in the city centre. I only wish the heating could be adjusted more easily.
