The swimming pool was very well kept, but the welcome was a letdown. Nobody was there when we arrived, and after waiting several minutes I called and reached the answering machine. The owner eventually showed up with, “Ah, it's you,” then gave us a quick look at the rooms. There was no air conditioning or even a fan, despite the extreme summer heat, and nobody offered us a glass of water. Later his wife, who also runs the bed and breakfast, said she'd been at the cinema with her son and grandson. I've stayed at many bed and breakfasts and never been greeted this way. At the end of the stay, the owners admitted they wanted to close. I can understand that, but they shouldn't let it show while hosting their last guests of the season. Otherwise, they should just close.

Everything felt old and neglected, from the dated room to the terrace outside, which looked like it hadn't been mopped in five years. The welcome was cold, too. The pool was covered, so we couldn't use it, and breakfast amounted to bread, butter, jam, and cheap orange juice. The owners have decided to close their business, but that doesn't excuse treating guests with such disrespect.

Don't hesitate, just go. It's a lovely gîte with a charming couple, and the meals are delicious, made with fresh ingredients, mostly from the garden.
