Le Grand Hôtel

The service really made our stay. Everyone was incredibly kind and professional. We had a lovely suite on the top floor, spacious and tastefully furnished, and breakfast was excellent. Le Grand Hotel absolutely lives up to its name. Highly recommended!

We only stayed one night on our way to La Rochelle, but it was a lovely place to recharge. Breakfast was hearty, and the staff served it with a smile, which always matters to me on holiday. We didn't have time to explore much nearby, though it looks like somewhere worth returning to with walking boots and a car. I'd booked from the UK before setting off, remembering a visit to town on a bicycle about 35 years ago. This time, our motorbikes covered the four-day pushbike trip from Montbrison in just four hours. The welcome at the hotel was great. Our room was up on the third floor, and the stairs were a bit of a slog, but the view made it worthwhile. After a full day riding, I probably needed the exercise anyway.

We really enjoyed our stay here with our teenage children. The staff are so friendly, and the location is great. Our room was spotless, the beds were comfortable, and we all slept well. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, including homemade bread, cakes, and croissants. Lots of healthy options too. There's no cooked breakfast, but that was fine with us. We'd definitely come back.

We loved our night here as a couple. The hotel is right in the center of Mont Dore, and its back garden looks out towards the mountains. The room was comfortable and thoughtfully decorated, and the customer service was amazing. I got the impression it's a family-run place, and the lady at reception was especially lovely and helpful. Breakfast was a huge buffet of homemade pastries and cakes. They make the bread themselves too, and it was delicious, better than what we found at nearby bakeries. There were fresh juices, coffee, tea, and more. A lovely, affordable place to stay in Mont Dore.
