Les Cabanes de la Plage Verte Campsite

The campsite itself was lovely, with beautiful views and access to the Sancy loop walk straight from our door. Even though campers arrived all day, it never felt overcrowded. The young woman at reception gave us a warm welcome and found us a pitch near the electric hook-up, which mattered because our cable is short. The showers were clean and hot, and the toilets were okay, though you had to bring your own toilet paper. We found the laundry machines useful and they worked well. The sauna was good once we managed to use it, but staff seemed to find our request inconvenient. The jacuzzi was available whenever, though it wasn't clean or hot enough. Wi-Fi worked only about half the time. The restaurant was closed for our entire stay. We spoke with four different reception staff, and not everyone was friendly. Communication between them was poor, and writing notes in the paper diary didn't seem to help. The reception shop was handy, but its €25 minimum for card payments was rigid, so I couldn't buy my morning croissants. The campsite was wonderful, but the advertised extras left us disappointed. If those services are offered, they need to be delivered properly.

A relaxed, pleasant campsite among grasslands, with lovely mountain views. It's beside a quiet road and just five minutes by car from Mont-Dore. You can also set off walking right from the site.

We booked Camping de la Plage Verte for three weeks in May because its website advertised amenities that suited our plans for spa treatments in Mont Dore. After sixty years of camping, we'd never had a welcome like this one: it was very cold, and we felt as though we were intruding. So many advertised facilities weren't available. The restaurant serving regional dishes was closed, and there was no morning bread or pastries. Neither the spa nor sauna was available, and the marquee with tables and chairs was unavailable too. The facilities were in poor shape. In the shower block there were no doors or heating, and only two of the three showers worked, despite the temperature outside being close to zero Celsius. Only two of three sinks worked, and there were no power outlets for an electric razor. Just three of six toilets worked, with no toilet paper. In the dishwashing area, only two of six sinks worked, and there was no hot water. The location near the Capucin could be much better with someone competent in charge who understands campers.

The setting is beautiful and the campsite is in a great location. When it's not full, it's a pleasant place to stay. In August, though, it gets packed in like sardines. The pitches aren't clearly marked, so neighbours end up much too close to you. Despite that, it was quiet and we still had an enjoyable stay. The toilets really need better cleaning. They were still filthy after the cleaners had been through. We'd stayed at a three-star campsite a few days before, and its toilets were clean. Please improve the cleaning.
