Anova Hotel & Spa

A lovely little ski lodge in the middle of Montgenevre. Our room had a mezzanine, a beautiful view, and plenty of space for two adults and two kids. Being able to ski in and out was especially handy, and hotel guests get a free ski locker. There are plenty of restaurants and supermarkets within a 10-minute walk. The staff were very friendly. Nassim at the front desk was especially welcoming and helpful, and speaks English very well, which made it easy to explain what we needed. Highly recommend!

The location is great, and our room was spacious and clean, but we left disappointed. We were “upgraded” to a slope-side room, which turned out to be awful because of the noise. The piste bashers start around 4am and keep going for hours. The rooms were also so dark that we could barely see in the evenings. The biggest letdown was the food. I have coeliac disease and need a gluten-free diet. My husband checked in advance whether that would be possible and was told it wouldn’t be a problem. But the menu had no allergen information, and the staff didn’t seem to know what contained gluten. They said things like “I think,” and told me bread was the only gluten item on the menu, which seems unlikely when they serve pasta too. We were staying bed and breakfast, and there were no options suitable for someone with coeliac disease. Food needs to be stored and prepared separately to avoid cross-contamination.

The wine was a nasty surprise. We asked for a craft wine and were only asked whether we wanted something light or full-bodied. There was no list, price or guidance, and they brought a bottle without us choosing it. We found out when the bill came that it was €67, which is outrageous for a wine we hadn’t selected. The steaks were just as disappointing, especially for our Christmas Day meal. We ordered two cooked exactly as requested, but the meat was tough, chewy and had no flavor. Getting the temperature right doesn’t help much when the cut itself is so poor. For a place charging premium prices, the whole thing felt careless and almost misleading. Montgenèvre has cheaper, tastier restaurants that treat their customers better. Don’t waste your time or money.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, but we went to the bar a few times and loved it. Best bar in Mongenevre 🙌🏼 Tomas and Sammy were legends behind the bar, real masters of their craft 👏. It’s in a great spot by the nursery slope, so the kids can sledge while you enjoy a nice cold drink 👌🏼
