La Comédie de Vanneau - Acte 1 - 4

The photos don't reflect what I found. In the first room I was given, the floor was covered in water, and there was a terrible smell from damp, old pipes and smoke from other guests. The windows wouldn't close, and the bathrooms and carpets were dirty. This "hotel" shouldn't be open. It doesn't meet basic safety or hygiene conditions.

The location is in the city centre, though the street is one of the uglier ones in this otherwise beautiful city. The man at the counter was nice. Still, I wouldn't recommend Hôtel de la Comédie. It was one of the worst, most depressing, old and dirty hotels I've stayed in. The entry hall smelled of sweat, and the first single room they offered smelled of cigarette smoke. Its window wouldn't open properly. I asked to switch rooms and, of course, had to pay extra, though I got a 4 Euro deduction. There wasn't a proper blanket, and the fake wool one in the cupboard had a cigarette burn. The place looks as if it hasn't been renovated in quite a while. I can't believe they rent these rooms for 84 Euros a night. Nobody should spend their hard-earned money here, I'm serious. Not recommended!!! P.S. The guy at the counter was nice, and he shouldn't have to pay the price in the end.

The staff were super warm and friendly, and the location is right in the heart of Montpellier. My room was small, as expected for such a low price, but everything worked perfectly. A comfortable bed, decent linen, fresh soft white towels, a hot, powerful shower and wooden coat hangers made for a good stay.

We had a great three-night stay and would come back. Hotel de la Comedie is very close to Montpellier St Roch station and the old quarter, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and fine for the price. I'd recommend it for a short visit.
