It’s worth stopping by the fountain and watching the steady stream of people pass through. The crowd is wonderfully varied, moving in all sorts of ways, and there are excellent buskers nearby. Large outdoor seating areas for fancy historic cafés and restaurants line this lively part of Montpellier at all times.
The square is a great place to begin exploring the old town, or simply sit and watch people go by. Place de la Comédie stays lively from the morning coffee crowd to evening strolls, and the tram lines make it easy to reach. Historic buildings surround the square, with the Opéra Comédie and Three Graces fountain drawing the eye.
We arrived in Montpellier on 26/06/25 and our first thought was, wow, what a beautiful place. The stonework details on the buildings around Place de la Comédie are incredible, and the whole square has a great vibe, with lots of restaurants around it. There’s ample parking in the underground car parks. This won’t be our last visit to Montpelier, there’s still so much more to see.
We cycled from Palavas Les Flots to visit the centre. The cycle route was very good and easy to follow. The centre was nice, but very busy.
