Residence Le Roc Noir

We had a great week at Le Roc Noir. It's an easy ski-to-door spot near the main lift, and the modern building is clean and well maintained. The staff were really friendly, and we were able to get into the apartment early because it was already ready. There's good parking for people driving, and the spa was very welcome after a full day of skiing. I've stayed in quite a few apartments in the Alps, and whoever designed this one did a great job. The layout is simple and sensible, with no maze of corridors and lifts to get to the car park or other facilities. I'd definitely come back.

We had an amazing stay and hope to come back next year. The staff were lovely, polite, and accommodating, and the whole building was clean. The location worked brilliantly for our family of five, with children aged 4, 8, and 10. Our ski hire shop was downstairs, there was a takeaway pizza place directly opposite, and a bakery two minutes' walk away under the neighbouring building. Ski-in, ski-out access was excellent, and having our own private ski storage was really handy. We had a view of the slopes and watched the torch descent from our balcony. The children loved being able to sled on the slopes after skiing, and the pool, sauna, and steam room were ideal for them and handy for my wife and me after skiing. We didn't need to use our van all holiday, and the underground car park with private parking was useful. My VW transporter with chrome roof rails fit, with about 100mm clearance from the ceiling. The only thing we didn't like was the beds. The children slept well, but my wife and I struggled, and I noticed others had mentioned uncomfortable beds too. That wouldn't stop me coming back, though I hope they consider improving them. I can't fault the accommodation otherwise, and we had a brilliant time.

We made good use of the amenities and had a really enjoyable stay at La Roc Noir. The staff were friendly and quick to help, and the location is fantastic. The apartment did stay very warm, though; changing the thermostat setting didn’t seem to make any difference. In the locker room, the boot warmers weren’t working and the carpet was wet all the time. Maybe lowering the room temperature a little could free up energy for the boot warmers.

The on-site managers were responsive, helpful, and clearly concerned. They refunded us in full, and we left after two nights. But we were bitten by bedbugs in the upstairs sleeping area of the fourth-floor apartment, which had two beds and one bathroom upstairs. Guests had reported the same problem 11 months earlier, so this needs immediate attention. The bites hurt and itched badly, and my eye was swollen shut for three days. I hope the place gets this sorted, but I’d warn other guests.
