Les Chamois

We arrived close to midnight on our check-in day, even though reception closes at 20:00. One phone call sorted everything: they told us our key would be at reception, our room was on the second floor, and asked if we wanted breakfast. See you in the morning. Thank you @Maria and @Michel for putting a smile on our faces. And Carpe Diem 🤗 This is exactly what I want from a mountain lodge. We loved the place, though it’s clearly the sort of spot people either love or hate. It’s deep in the forest, meters from hiking trails and a natural reserve. Don’t expect hot water at all times, full meals whenever you want them, or regular hotel service. The staff live there, so respect their home and appreciate that they share it with you. For the price, there’s much more here than just accommodation. Take in where you are, and if you rode up the mountain, I’m sure you’ll enjoy resting here. The dogs are loved and cared for, and are there for protection. If you don’t like animals, go somewhere else. And if the place smells unusual or seems full of junk, this probably isn’t for you either. It’s a mountain cabin, and an old one has plenty of stories under its roof. The owner has chosen to display a collection of things, and I can’t see how that makes a stay less enjoyable. Have you tried the home baked croissants and baguette, had dinner here, or tasted the coffee? Have you enjoyed the scenery and spent time listening to the owners’ stories? There’s plenty more I could say.

We had a really lovely host who spoke English and made us feel very welcome during our cheap, great one-night stay on a motorcycle trip. It’s an old building, so don’t expect too much from the rooms, though the beds were very comfortable and ours even had a balcony. We had a great dinner and beer that evening, then a lovely little breakfast. A wonderful short stop, and we’d definitely come back on our next Route des Grandes Alpes trip.

This quirky traditional hotel was a lovely change from the usual commercial places with their white walls. The owners gave us a warm, friendly welcome, and the views were stunning. We also enjoyed the local home-cooked food. A wonderful find, highly recommended.

The room was clean and warm, with stunning views, and the host was really friendly. I stayed one night in March, had a superb meal and very good beer, and will definitely stay longer next time.
