Ibis Styles Mulhouse Centre Gare

The rooms are compact, though really clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly, and breakfast was lovely.

The Wi-Fi, TV, and shower all worked fine, and the fresh orange juice machine was good when it had oranges in it. That was about it for the positives. The bedding felt neglected: tiny pillows, a duvet cover far too big for its duvet, and a general smell that didn’t feel clean. We’d driven nearly 10 hours and were exhausted, so I didn’t ask for all the bedding to be replaced. We were given one key card for my husband and me, and had to go back to reception for another; we had the same issue with towels. The towels were so worn that even my dog’s towel is fluffier. There was no shampoo or conditioner, unlike what many other Ibises provide in wall dispensers. The corridor had a strange smell and the carpet was badly stained. A door at the end led to the Ibis Budget, and the layout was identical, so we realised we were in what seemed like an Ibis Budget with nicer decor. Our window faced the trains, which made some noise, though not much. The curtains opened into the middle of the walkway instead of staying by the wall, making it harder to move around. At breakfast, the ham and turkey slices didn’t seem fresh, the brie was so dry it was hard to cut, and the fruit salad seemed five days old. The jams were cheap and watery, while other Ibises in France, including ones that aren’t Styles, serve Bon Maman. There were plenty of other signs that whoever runs the hotel doesn’t care much. We’ve stayed in many Ibises in France because we travel with a dog and they’re usually pet-friendly. This one didn’t measure up, and we wouldn’t come back, even for another quick stop.

Getting around was easy from here, with the city, station, and shops close by. The room was cozy, pleasant, very clean, and had a view of the railway tracks. Breakfast was good, though a few more choices, like hard-boiled eggs, would be nice.

The location deserves five stars, about a three-minute walk from the railway station and close to the centre. We had a really nice time, and the hotel and staff were friendly and cool. Most staff spoke English and were very kind, though some didn’t. Our room was good, but the beds could’ve been more comfortable. Breakfast tasted great, even if there wasn’t much choice. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Mulhouse.
