ibis Styles Nantes Centre Place Royale

The hotel is central, close to everything, and the bed was very comfortable. My room could use renovation, but it was quiet at night. Most of the reception staff were friendly, polite and helpful, especially the young blond woman. The breakfast was basic. There was a problem with the fruit salad one day, which they fixed, but we skipped breakfast for the last two days and ate out. The WiFi was unreliable and kept cutting out for most of our stay. I’d also like them to remove the disposable cups from the breakfast area. People kept choosing those over the ceramic cups, which isn’t sustainable or green.

For the price, it was very reasonable, and breakfast was included. The tram stop is a minute away, and it’s just three stops to the main railway station. It’s an Ibis, so you know it’ll be basic, but it had what I needed. My room, 507, smelled a little. I was glad the windows opened wide. I got bitten quite a lot by mosquitoes in the room, though I can’t really blame the hotel for that.

The room was passable, but the sheets were a bit torn at the edges and lots of things in the room looked worn. Breakfast was a real letdown: cold, with hardly any choices and almost no protein apart from boiled eggs that were cold and hard to swallow. It definitely needs an upgrade.

We mainly needed somewhere to sleep in central Nantes, and this Ibis did the job. The room was okay, the bed comfortable, and breakfast had enough choice. The location is great, about a three-minute walk from Commerce tram stop. If you’re coming from the airport, a tip: skip the 10-euro airport bus. Take service 38 for 1.80 euros, then change at Pirmil to tram 2 or 3 towards central Nantes. The trams stop where the airport bus ends, and the trip takes the same amount of time. Your ticket is valid for an hour. To get to the train station, change at Commerce to tram 1, which drops you outside. Weekend transport is free, except for the airport bus.
