La Ptite Madeleine

Regulars give this café a warm, reassuring feel, and the owner is a big part of that. He listens closely and treats people with real kindness, even sharing in the difficult stories customers bring with them. It's an inexpensive, straightforward place, and from the outside you might not expect much. But across from the maternity ward and near the home for parents of sick children, that thoughtful welcome makes it a real refuge for people accompanying ill children.

Definitely our first and last visit. We had just taken my sister to the maternity ward and stopped for a quick coffee before going back to her. We sat on the Café Le Madeleine terrace, then waited ten minutes before the waiter, who seemed to be the manager, came over. He didn't take our order. He said we didn't deserve a table outside in good weather if we were only having coffee. He could simply have pointed us to another table or asked if we wanted anything else. Instead there was no courtesy or alternative, just a contemptuous response when we already had enough on our minds. People should not be treated that way, especially when all they're hoping for is a little kindness. Avoid this place.

Just the kind of coffee shop we enjoy. The service was impeccable, and we were greeted with a smile. I had a lovely time, thank you.
