Sure Hotel by Best Western Nantes Beaujoire

A big plus in summer was the working airco 😀. There was plenty of free parking behind a gate that closes around 11pm. The hotel feels professional, the staff are friendly, and our room was clean and the stay pleasant. It's on the outskirts of Nantes. The pots and pans were quite dirty, though, and there were no dishwashing supplies, probably why they hadn't been cleaned.

I was there on a Monday, when most restaurants were closed, so I bought steaks at the Carrefour and fried them in my room's small kitchen. I didn't ask whether there was a restaurant. The staff were kind and helpful, and spoke English. My room was clean and had a bad top. Breakfast starts at six, which was great, with plenty of choices. I had a great one-day stay. It was a terrible stay, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who wants a clean room. We were a work group of 10, spread across five rooms, for the night of the 8th of September at Sure Hotel in Nantes. We had to pay at check-in, something I hadn't encountered before in European hotels. Three rooms had problems. My brother and I and four colleagues had to go back to reception because our cards didn't work. The night auditor spoke no English, so we couldn't understand what had happened, but it seemed the cards hadn't been activated properly. After showering, I lay down and heard the fire alarm beep every minute because its battery was low. I called reception, but the language barrier made things difficult again. She eventually came up and moved us to another room. By the time we got in, it was already 0130 in the night, and we were exhausted. In the morning, the sheets weren't properly clean, there was rotten-smelling food in the fridge, the microwave was filthy, and the toilet smelled bad. At breakfast, colleagues said two other rooms also had smelly food in the fridge and weren't cleaned properly. One had cooked chicken left in the kitchenette and dirty dishes in the sink. We told Cristine at reception. She was a trainee working weekends and hadn't been told what happened overnight, so she couldn't resolve it, though she was helpful and tried her best. We were asked to email about the experience. Apparently guests complain about the same things every week, but the comments on Bookings make the hotel look good. I also saw them dismiss some complaints, though based on what I experienced, I wouldn't doubt the criticism.

The facilities are brilliant for a low price, and the staff seemed friendly. My only gripes were the unpaved parking lot and the expensive hotel food. The room was properly soundproofed, with a little kitchen area, sink, fridge, and microwave, plus an en-suite toilet and bathroom separated for extra privacy. And that bed was amazing, truly heavenly after a long trip.
