The breakfast spread and afternoon tea were both lovely, and the weekly dinner was a real highlight. The hostess cooks it herself, with wines her husband chooses, and it’s well worth trying. My husband and I stayed at Beau Sejour for over a week. The hosts were warm and full of useful suggestions for places to visit, eat, and shop, and they clearly care a lot about their work and the region. It’s one of the nicest places I’ve stayed in recent years. We’d happily go back.

John gave my father and me a glass of Rosé to try, which we could buy from the cave across the road. Our room was fantastic, with a nice bathroom. John and Maureen, an English couple, were such helpful hosts. They even booked us an evening meal back at Saint Emillion, which is very nearby. What a find.

The winery across the road was a great bonus. You’ll need a car to explore, but the cottage itself is lovely and relaxing, and the couple who run it are lovely too.

The garden is huge, and it’s a lovely spot to enjoy the homemade breakfast from John and Maureen. They’re an English couple who really go out of their way to make your stay feel perfect. The rooms are enormous and spotless, with lots of thoughtful touches, like water in a pitcher, soaps in different scents, and warm towels on the radiator. The decor is beautiful too, from the solid wood floors and antique wardrobes to the fireplaces and piano. We’ll be back in a heartbeat.
