Le Clos Joli

The host was very rude. Avoid this place.

We were a group of 10, and the service left us shocked, especially from an owner who says he’s been hosting for 15 years. The place itself wasn’t anything special for the price, though it might have been fine if the service had matched it. It didn’t. The owner made us feel deeply uncomfortable. The mood was tense and rigid, and his comments made the evening almost unbearable. He came across as someone who doesn’t like people, with a focus on making money, and seemed to forbid nearly everything. He criticized other guests in front of us without embarrassment. Even the hair he provides felt like a decoy, since he found excuses not to turn it on, as other reviews mention. It’s expensive for what’s offered: breakfast costs extra and there are no bath towels. The cleaning fee also seemed pointless when he then said the place wasn’t clean enough. As he put it, “I've seen cleaner houses left,” even though we had cleaned it ourselves. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The food was excellent and had an original touch, and the owner was friendly. It’s a very quiet spot, with a bucolic feel that nature lovers should enjoy. When we visited during a heatwave, the rooms had decent ventilation, though there was no air conditioning.

The dining room is nicely decorated, but the rooms are very simply furnished for such a high price. What really bothered us, though, was the owner’s attitude. We’d booked all the available rooms for our family, including our children and the bride, for our daughter’s wedding nearby. The day before arriving, we called to coordinate check-in and explained that our son was coming from Brittany and would arrive very late. We said we’d show him his room so as not to disturb him. The owner said that was out of the question because he wanted to know who was going home, and suggested people should just take a room on the way. He reluctantly agreed in the end, but greeted us by saying, “I'm going to end up refusing weddings and parties because every time, especially if the bride and her mother are there, there are problems.” No hello, no welcome. For the three days we stayed, we had to put up with so many reprimands that I can’t list them all. Sir, if you want peace and quiet at home and don’t want to deal with the paying guests you welcome, you should stop hosting people who are paying a lot to enjoy themselves, only to feel watched all the time. If you’re attending a wedding near Souppes, I’d avoid Clos Joli in Souppes-sur-Loing. There are plenty of other places where guests are welcomed properly. And those glowing reviews posted by the owner of "Clos Joli" in Souppes-sur-Loing deserve to be taken with a grain of salt.
