The house was elegant and nicely furnished, and its location made it easy to get to the local sights and ski resorts. Nicolas was a great host. As a hotel manager in Tuscany, I feel I can judge that honestly, and he has the qualities to make guests happy. We loved every moment of our holiday and would gladly return in summer to enjoy the pool, walking paths, and the area's natural surroundings. Thanks again, Nicolas.

Our booking was confirmed and paid in full before the owner said the prices were wrong and told us to cancel. We'd already arranged flights to match the stay, so it was a very disappointing experience, and I wouldn't risk staying here given this approach to business. To clarify after the owner's response, we booked legitimately through Booking.com for next year. He took our full payment, confirmed the booking, then said the prices were incorrect. I'm not sure what he means by “different propositions”; from our side, he contacted us by phone or email asking for more money. Booking.com advised us not to speak to him directly. There was no apology or acknowledgment that he was at fault for not updating the prices, or that we'd booked flights after the accommodation payment was taken.

I'm giving it 3 stars for the setting and location. The Booking.com listing is very polished, but we found it misleading. The photos look dreamy, yet the accommodation is shared with the owner, whose disruptive dog means he keeps coming onto “our terrace.” The pool hours are so long you'd think it was public, and the owner is condescending. Some parts of the listing mention a third bathroom, but I never found it, like Dupont de Ligonnès. The owner has a magnificent view of the pool, which is great if you want privacy. There were bedbugs and flies everywhere. Even the owner seemed surprised when I explained. Remember to bring your firewood from the trunk if you want to cook meat.

Nicolas and his family were kind, always available, and gave us lots of ideas for exploring the area. We felt at home during our two wonderful weeks at "Gite La Quintessence." The spacious, well-equipped house sits in a peaceful mountain setting, and the large garden and pool were a treat for the whole family. It's close enough to Annecy for sightseeing and activities, while still feeling tucked away in nature. A lovely family holiday, highly recommended.
