The meals were made with very good products, and the cider and pommeau were excellent and unlimited. We had a lovely weekend in an idyllic setting, with a friendly atmosphere among the other guests. It was our first bed and breakfast stay, and we really enjoyed it. The owner was attentive, lovely, and very courageous. We booked with a Smartbox and had to pay extra for a meal because the box didn’t cover everything. We’d happily come back.

The one positive was that they tried to accommodate our vegetarian needs despite having a single menu. The owners seem like good, sincere, simple people, but they don’t have the hospitality experience or empathy to run this kind of place. We usually avoid leaving bad reviews, but felt it was necessary here, both because of how we were treated, perhaps without them realizing it, and to warn others considering a visit. Some practical things made our five nights especially difficult. There was just one towel between the two of us for four nights and five days, and we couldn’t get another. There was no shower gel in the room, and we even ran out of toilet paper. We called the only number listed on the website many times because the location was hard to reach, but nobody answered, and we weren’t given another contact afterward. The welcome was very simple, and the manners could be surprisingly rough. Meals were very modest in quality, not what we’d expect at a hotel, and came on oilcloth tablecloths with just one glass, plate, and set of cutlery for all courses. We ate at the table with the owners and other guests, usually Norman or Breton. They didn’t speak English and talked among themselves quickly, with pronunciation we found truly hard to understand. Hygiene was very basic, to put it generously, and the other diners’ table manners weren’t in line with Italian customs. We’re good travelers and don’t like luxury, and we did our best to adapt and focus on the good. But honestly, this was too much.
