Château de Noyers

We spent two nights at the château over the weekend, invited to celebrate a christening. The building has been restored quite successfully, and the setting is magnificent, but the owners’ manner made us feel unwelcome from the start. Their remarks about the rainy weather and other things were often delivered so curtly that we felt uncomfortable throughout the stay. Guests should be made to feel at ease, and adapting to the people staying there is part of hospitality. This is the first time I’ve ever written a review after staying at a hotel or other accommodation. I was that shocked by how we were treated.

The rooms were tastefully decorated and spotless, and the owners gave us great suggestions for walks and things to do nearby. I came with three friends for a relaxing weekend, and they treated us like princesses. I’ll definitely recommend this place to everyone I know and would happily return.

The room was clean and spacious, in an old fortified castle. But arriving before 4:30 pm is forbidden, and you need the lady of the castle’s permission to use the pool, according to the house rules. If you booked through Wonderbox, apparently that’s something to be ashamed of. We were told, “I hope you realize that it's a privilege to enjoy the pool before 5 pm, especially since you're here with a Wonderbox gift box!” Even so, we still had to pay an extra €10.

Our friends rented the castle for the weekend for a baptism, with meals and outdoor activities planned. When the rain forced everyone inside, the owner kept making derogatory remarks about us being indoors, even though we had no choice and the castle was rented for the whole weekend. He then complained afterward. Throughout the weekend, our friends, who had organized it, also had to put up with comments made in front of us. It was a serious lack of tact. They stayed calm and polite so we could still enjoy ourselves despite the weather and his remarks. The owner came across as cold, bitter, and disrespectful, with none of the hospitality, flexibility, understanding, people skills, or enjoyment of sharing with others that running a guesthouse calls for. I’d advise people not to go there. I had to give it a star just to post this review, and he doesn’t deserve even that.
