Hôtel Château de l'Ile

The bathroom and the location were the only good parts for me. The rooms look very old and run down, and they badly need refurbishing. Whenever the bedroom or bathroom lights were on, they made a constant electric buzzing noise that was extremely annoying. The so-called spa is just a tiny sauna that can barely fit 3 people, plus a steam room that was far too hot to go into. The pool in the wellness area was too cold and too small, and the “hot tub” was cold too. The water had so much chlorine that I still smelled of it the rest of the day, even after washing. The restaurant was full when we first arrived, which was embarrassing since a hotel ought to be able to accommodate its customers. They did manage to squeeze us in, but the food was awful. I ordered a steak and it was the worst I’ve ever had. The next day we were told the restaurant was closed. That was fine since we wouldn’t have gone back, but they should provide the service they promised. The outside looks incredible, but don’t let that fool you. This is nowhere near a 5 star hotel. I’d rate it closer to 3 stars.

The château has a classy, beautiful vintage look, and the drive from Strasbourg is about 20 minutes. The staff and breakfast food were good, and both the bedding and room were very clean. The facilities are quite dated, though. You can see rust from oxidation on the door locks. I’d recommend renovating them, and then it could be a perfect château.

The area is pretty and there’s a lot to do, but I’d stay somewhere else. The rooms were filthy and very dated, with an old smell, kind of like my grandparents’ house. I’m not trying to be mean, that’s just what it smelled like. With no air conditioning, I sweated all night and barely rested during my one night there. There’s only one window, and when I opened it to cool the room, bugs and mosquitoes came in because there wasn’t even a screen.

I stayed in a large, nicely decorated room, and the food was excellent. The staff were very nice, and the grounds around the château are beautiful, set on a large property beside a small river. It’s a lovely, peaceful place, with a dining room, breakfast room, bar, pool, and spa. There’s plenty of parking too. The setting is charming, with church bells chiming at certain hours and even a rooster crowing a few times in the evening.
