Best Western La Mare o Poissons

The location is very handy when coming from the ferry, and the lobby and restaurant look welcoming. The rooms, though, don’t feel worth the price: mine was dated, the bed was very uncomfortable, and there was mold around the shower. I wouldn’t stay here again.

We spent a week here and were well looked after by Melanie, Sophie and their colleagues. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and nothing seemed to be a problem. The hotel was clean, stylish and quiet, with a great range at breakfast. I believe the staff can also put together bar snacks. The restaurant next door is good, but it’s a separate business, not part of the hotel. We’d definitely stay again, whether passing through or spending time in the area.

The staff were very friendly and easy to communicate with, thanks to their excellent language skills. The price felt fair for the stay, and the bar was okay, with local beer and snacks. We were a family of four, including two kids, staying four nights in two rooms. The rooms were small and clean, with just a bed and a little desk, and there was no fridge or much room to dry swimwear. Breakfast was decent, though it got a bit repetitive by the fourth day. The pool was as shown and described, but two or three families could make it crowded. The hotel is a bit far from Ouistreham town and the beach. On the other hand, it gives quick access to the main roads, which worked well for day trips around Normandy. The on-site restaurant had recently closed during our stay, which may be a drawback if you want to eat at the hotel. Taking the fair price, helpful staff and good base for exploring Normandy together, I’d lean toward five stars.

The staff were easily the best part, friendly and helpful to a fault. I’m happy to give this hotel a rare five stars from me. The rooms are very good for the price, there’s plenty of parking, it’s quiet, and the port is close by. Breakfast was really good too. There are plenty of good places to eat in town, as I think the restaurant is currently closed for evening meals.
