The house is in a good location, and the surrounding area is very pretty. But the owner is completely unprofessional, which is a major drawback. I’m sure she’ll strongly criticize what I’m about to write, but I don’t care. I’d rather warn other potential visitors. We rented the whole house for Christmas as a family, and we won’t be back. Here’s why: 1) On arrival, we had to sign a contract saying any electricity use over 75 kWh for the week would cost €0.40 per extra kWh. That allowance is practically nothing, and the rate is twice the current €0.20 price in France. We used 462 kWh over the week, costing €185, just to keep the house barely at 15°C. And yes, we were careful. 2) The underfloor heating was supposed to work, but it never did. 3) Cleaning was an optional €280 charge. We chose it because the house is large, but the place was dirty, dusty, and covered in cobwebs when we arrived. We could have cleaned it ourselves. Since we didn’t report the problems within six hours of signing the contract, we were told it was too late. Yes, you have to report everything within six hours, so keep that in mind ;). Why charge so much and leave guests with a house in that state? 4) For several days, there wasn’t enough hot water for more than four people to shower. We had to turn the water heater up high. But that was fine, since the tenants pay for the extra electricity. 5) The water was disgusting. I assume it’s drinkable, but it was still so unpleasant that we had to buy packs of bottled water. For a place that says it’s eco-friendly, there are better options. 6) When we returned the keys, the owner nearly refused to give back our €1300 security deposit check until she’d checked that everything worked. We had to insist quite forcefully that she check everything was in order and return it that day. I’ve never had an experience like that. 7) Upstairs, the heating is all electric, using old radiators. Downstairs there’s only a fireplace in the living room and an electric heater in the kitchen. It’s clearly not enough, but the owner doesn’t care. She listens, but doesn’t care. 8) In winter, it’s completely unsuitable for people with reduced mobility. The Braille sign is in English rather than French. We reported that, but the owner doesn’t care. 9) In winter, the lack of warmth makes this place unsuitable for babies, toddlers, or older people.
