Hotel Andre Latin

It was really cold in Paris during our stay, but the hotel was warm and we could control the heat in our room. The room was small, so only three stars for that, but fine for two people. Both the room and bathroom were very clean. The metro is a 10-minute walk away, and plenty of places for breakfast are within walking distance, so we didn't eat at the hotel. Some noisy people stayed next door, though that can happen anywhere. I'd stay again.

I've stayed here three times, booking each time through a Eurostar package, and the location is perfect for exploring Paris. It's central but feels residential. The RER B is about a five-minute walk away, Luxembourg Garden is another five minutes on foot, and Notre Dame is a mostly straight 15-20 minute walk. There's a mini supermarket nearby and lovely local bars and restaurants. Le Cercle Luxembourg, a little corner Bistro down the road, is great for breakfast or lunch. I highly recommend the omelette and fries and Liquor Coffee. The spotless rooms have room safes, and there's a small lift. Day staff are really friendly, though some male night staff seem annoyed when you ask for your room key.

The location is the real selling point. The underground is five minutes away, with a direct train to and from the airport so you don't have to change lines. There's affordable food nearby, meals from 8 euro, including halal fast food for Muslims. The staff were friendly and held our luggage while we explored before the 2pm check-in. We paid for breakfast and enjoyed a taste of traditional food, though seating is limited. The hotel itself was great.

We stayed for three nights this week, and after an unsettling mix-up on the second night, I wouldn't choose to stay here again. We came back from dinner to a stranger knocking and saying “room service,” though we hadn't ordered any, then repeatedly asking to be let in. When I called reception for someone to come remove him, I learned the hotel had let him into our room while we were out and allowed him to leave his bags there as if it were his room. I believe it was a huge, honest mistake, and the staff apologized. They kindly gave us champagne and breakfast the next morning, but we were still disappointed because our passports, money, and personal belongings had been in the room. We felt very unsafe afterward. The staff were polite and the hotel was very clean, which is why I gave three stars. The location is also good if you want to save money by staying outside central Paris, with the metro about a five-minute walk around the corner.
