Atelier Montparnasse Hotel

The metro and location are ideal. Our room was clean and nice, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I'd definitely recommend it.

There's a metro station just a two-minute walk away, and plenty of places to eat stay open late. The location is great, but the room was very small despite looking modern at first. Being right on the street also made it noisy. The bathroom was cramped, with no towel hooks, no toilet paper roll holder, and hardly any space by the sink. Shower water took ages to drain, and the tiles had lots of mold between them. There was no AC, and with temperatures reaching 30°C in the daytime, the room got really hot.

The bed was comfortable, the room was simple and clean, and the showers had hot water with good pressure. The staff were lovely. But I chose this place after a lot of research because it advertised AC, and was disappointed to arrive and be told it “wasn't working.” There's a fan in each room, but it was still much too hot to sleep.

We booked because the hotel advertised AC, clean looking rooms, and a spot near the metro. On arrival, though, we were told there was no AC anywhere in the hotel. August was brutally hot day and night. Our first room was so tiny we could barely get a suitcase through the door, and the shower smelled unbearably of sewage. We were told we couldn't move rooms until the next day. It was too hot to shower, and the night was long, sweaty, and stinky from the bathroom. The next room seemed okay at first, but the AC still didn't work. The floors were warped, apparently from earlier water damage. After a long day out, we tried the shower and it flooded the room with about an inch of water, under the bed and out the door. That explained the soft, warped floor. There was no night staff, and the receptionist said he was out of towels. This was a Saturday, and we were told no one could repair it until Monday, so we faced another night without AC or a usable shower. The following day, the AC randomly started running. The receptionist was about to move us again because of the plumbing, but we were so relieved to have AC that we stayed and used the sink to rinse off until the plumbers came. They tell everyone there's no AC, even though some rooms do have it. The plumbers worked on the drain while we were out, but we were scared to take a proper shower, so we did quick military style rinse, soap, and rinse routines in case it flooded again. We stayed nine nights. The staff argued with us and yelled at us, and several receptionists were unhelpful and unpleasant. The hotel refused any refund and nearly canceled our stay without our permission. One person offered free breakfast for the whole stay, then the next day another tried to charge us and said that offer wasn't possible. Breakfast is croissants and coffee, and they charge 12 euros for it! The rooms were disappointing, and the staff were some of the worst I've ever dealt with. I'd stay clear of this place. I can't understand how it still has stars, given that some of the reviews say these problems have been going on for years.
