Hotel d'Angleterre Saint Germain des Prés

Our room on the fourth floor looked over the courtyard and was really large. The building is beautifully decorated, clean, and comfortable, with a small elevator so there’s no need to take the stairs. We had continental breakfast each morning, including cappuccino and a fresh croissant. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to help us recover my husband’s bag after he left it behind. We could walk to many of the tourist sights from this perfectly placed hotel. We’d definitely recommend it for a Paris trip.

The refund was the last part of a frustrating stay. We were told there would be a pre-authorisation, but the hotel charged us instead. They said they’d refund it before we left, then wouldn’t return it through the original payment method and asked for payment details by email, which felt unsafe. I eventually got the refund three months later, after sending the details even though I didn’t want to. We’d booked for our anniversary, but the room wasn’t the one we reserved. It was poorly maintained, cold, and the carpets triggered my allergies. The bathroom setup was awkward: after using it, you had to walk through the bedroom to get to the sink. Loud banging woke us several times at night, so we couldn’t rest. We left in the morning and booked another hotel in Paris at 5am. The hotel offered us the room we’d originally booked, but we didn’t feel comfortable staying another night. Since it was our anniversary and we had plans, we didn’t want the stress and lost time of moving rooms. They hadn’t acknowledged the occasion with anything in the room, and tried to persuade us to take the other room. Having to leave our room key with staff whenever we went out was something else I really disliked.

I've been coming for years, and each visit feels like staying in my little Paris home away from home. The hotel has a lovely, intimate size and a strong Parisian feel. It isn't pristine perfection, but it's a beautiful experience every time. Breakfast is included when you book directly through the hotel. Merci beaucoup to Angleterre.

We chose to add breakfast and liked the selection: fresh croissants and baguettes, hard-boiled eggs, deli meats, yogurt, fruit, and cereal. The room was huge by Paris standards, which surprised me, and the old hotel has plenty of quaint character and history. My mom and I stayed for a week at the end of November and slept well. It’s on a quiet street near shops, restaurants, and attractions, and even as a light sleeper I had no trouble resting. The one downside was that our room wasn’t as clean as I’d have liked. Still, I’ll stay again because the central location was amazing.
