D'win Hotel

The room was tiny, the shower even tinier, and there was dust everywhere. I also couldn’t get the climate controls to work. I had to ask reception about the lights, which turn on when you slide your room key into a little box by the door.

The place is in terrible shape. There’s no elevator, and the stairs are unlit, sloping, and dangerous. Even the shower floor slopes. The floors tilt too, and the lights often don’t work. The walls and carpet were filthy, and when we asked for a bath towel, staff acted surprised. Nothing is provided. Across the street there’s a men’s shower show, if you know what I mean, open all night. The noise kept us up at all hours, and we could see rats running from the window. We couldn’t control the temperature, so we tried to sleep with the windows open. Even with a do not disturb sign on our door, someone knocked before checkout and wanted to come in.

Right in the middle of the Marais, which is great, but the hotel feels very worn and badly needs refurbishment. It was clean, though carpets were worn through in spots, and reception didn’t even greet us with a smile. There are better places nearby for maybe €20 more per night.

The location is hard to beat, right in le Marais, near the subway, bars, restaurants, and plenty of sights within walking distance. We couldn’t have picked a better spot. The room was clean and good, and the shower was small but manageable. There are lots of stairs, but that’s part of what you get with a 2-star hotel in Paris. During our stay, the wifi didn’t seem to work, and neither did the little fridge. We mentioned the fridge and were told it would be fixed, but it never was. We only needed it to keep water and a couple of sandwiches cool, and they let us use their fridge. Still, it would’ve been nice to have a working one in the room. For a 2-star hotel, it’s nearly perfect, and as a couple we’d consider coming back.
