Hotel de la Porte Dorée

The location made getting around Paris so easy. Metro, tram, and bus stops are right downstairs, and during our two-week stay we relied on public transport to explore all over the city. There are plenty of places to eat nearby. McDonald’s and Burger King are downstairs; we loved the Italian restaurant and the pizza place next to it so much that we went back more than five times. Across the street there’s a pastry shop where locals line up every day, plus a Franprix for groceries. A coin-operated laundromat is diagonally across from the tram station. We stayed 11 nights and were extremely happy with the experience. Every staff member was kind and friendly. Special thanks to the two night-shift gentlemen, who were warm and funny, and even taught me some French. I’ll miss them. The hotel’s décor is elegant and tasteful, with a warm welcome, plenty of thoughtful details, and amenities including a small sewing kit. The lounge has complimentary self-serve coffee and fruit. The soundproofing isn’t perfect, but most guests were considerate and we weren’t disturbed at night. The paid breakfast is simple, mostly bread, yogurt, salad, and drinks. Those minor things didn’t affect our stay. Thanks to all the staff for making our trip so lovely. We’ll definitely stay here again if we return to Paris.

There are lovely bistros, parks, and public walkways just steps away. The hotel sits where bus, tram, and metro routes meet, so it’s easy to get anywhere in Paris. It may feel a little out of the way if you don’t know the city, but the fantastic staff are happy to help you find your bearings. I travel to Paris often, and this hotel and its team have always gone beyond what I needed.

Right across the street on Sunday, we came across one of the loveliest, most charming markets. It was an unforgettable experience. The hotel itself is charming, with a clean, beautifully designed room, in one of Paris’s most beautiful, lively, and luxurious neighborhoods. The metro entrance is right next door, which is very convenient. The passing tram caused a little sound and vibration, but it wasn’t disturbing and didn’t affect our sleep. The busy tourist spots, like the Eiffel Tower and Louvre, are a bit far away. For us, that was no downside, as the quieter setting made the stay more pleasant.

We stayed eight nights at Hotel de la Porte Dorée and would absolutely come back. It’s in a lovely part of the 12th arr., with plenty of restaurants, a boulangerie across the street, and a pharmacy and monoprix within walking distance. Breakfast includes fresh fruit, eggs, and pastries. The staff were wonderful, very polite, spoke English well, and helped us with directions and recommendations. There are two stops on the 8 line nearby, Porte Dorée in one direction and Michel Bizot in the other. The metro was easy to use. You can hear it running under the hotel a little, but it never bothered us, and it doesn’t run overnight. We arrived early, so they let us leave our luggage before the room was ready, which meant we could enjoy our first day in Paris.
